At Underlay4u our main supplier of underlay is a company called Interfloor.
Interfloor was a company created from a merger with Duralay and Tredaire carpet underlay brands
This company now has over 400 staff in the UK.
There primary goals are to create quality products with service and valve, this has made Interfloor one of the worlds’s leading carpet underlay and flooring accessory manufacture.
There range of underlay’s is vast and here at Underlay4U we carry the most popular carpet and laminate underlay’s.
There underlay types range from

Rubber Crumb Underlay:
This is recycled shredded rubber crumbs that are then re constructed into a carpet underlay.
This type of underlay is quite firm underfoot as they are of a solid construction and are used mainly in the contract sector, although they can be used in the domestic sector as well.
Indentations from a firm underlay will be less noticeable
Rubber Sponge Underlay:
This is a close cell rubber that is usually formed into waffle; this gives a softer underfoot feel.
This is used in the domestic and commercial sector, it gives a good intermediate feel underfoot and is used extensively to all areas of the home.
PU Foam
This is a recycled product, made from the off cuts of foam the furniture, automotive and soft furnishings sector.
The foam is collected, shredded and re boned into a sheet format, although relatively a new product they have been around since 2000.
This product has many advantages over the other types of carpet underlay in that it has better Tog ratings and acoustic reduction properties compared to the similar thickness rubber types.
The PU foam does feel softer underfoot, but this may be a disadvantage in certain instances, like wheeled traffic.
Combination Underlay’s
This underlay is a product that has evolved from the old hair felt underlay in that it had ½ rubber crumb and ½ hair felt.
It gives good underfoot feel, and with the felt top, this helps the carpet (or carpet seams) to bed and reduce the change of the carpet needing a re stretch.
